mr. and mrs. alvey.

I am not a wedding photographer.
I don't aspire to be one either.
But this is my niece.
I changed her diapers and tickled her tummy.
I kissed her boo boos and combed her hair.
I've watched her play with ponies and listened to her flute.
I've watched her lead a drum corps and fall in love.
So, for Kelly, I made an exception to my "no weddings" policy.

Their day was perfect.
Full of laughter and tears and  LOTS of kisses!
I'll say no more and let the pictures tell the story...

i heart faces/white.

Eyes full of tears.
She had been looking at him...then I asked her to turn and look at me.
Enough said.

I follow a blog called i heart faces  that offers all kinds of help and encouragement to photographers.
They also provide a weekly challenge.
Although I've never entered before, when I saw that this week's theme was {white}, I couldn't resist.
Hop on over to  i heart faces and see some amazing work!

curse broken.

Whenever we schedule a time to take pictures of the Larsens, the weather refuses to cooperate.
It seems we're cursed.
This day was no different.
An hour and a half before this shoot, it was pouring down rain.
Buckets.
And buckets.
But just in time, it miraculously cleared up.
The grass was still soggy, but we didn't care too much!
The curse was broken.

This is one of my favorite families on the planet.
They are strong and beautiful.
Inside and out.
I am blessed to call them friends.

project 52/33.

{slow down and look back}
When my son was a little boy, we were vacationing in Colorado
and he urged me to look back to get a better view of the majestic Rockies.
"Look behind you, Mommy, and you will be joyful."
His words have been tucked away in my heart ever since.

He left for his final year of college this week.
As I tidied up (as all mothers must do after their children leave home),
I found, in penmanship so much like his dad's, the words to a song he had written the week before.
And so I sat down and did what that boy had told me to do years ago.
I looked back
and
I was joyful.

blue eyes, big smile.

Kelly has both gorgeous blue eyes and a smile that lights up her face!
With a busy senior year ahead of her, she can check senior pictures off her list.
The weather was perfect, and I think we caught some great shots!

We met on ISU's quad just in time to beat the students who'll be returning this week.
and a few shots in downtown Bloomington...
 In the hood...

Best wishes for a fabulous senior year, Kelly!
